What Fertility Tests Might I Need?
Blood test and, if relevant, semen tests
The first essential part is having a blood test to measure key fertility hormones such as AMH (indication of ovarian reserve) and TSH (thyroid function), and if you’re planning treatment with a partner, they will do a semen test. The results of these tests will be discussed in your consultation and will help guide our recommendations for your personal circumstances, giving us an indication of whether (or not) you need to move forward with fertility treatment or preservation, how quickly and what treatment we’d recommend.
Receive a pelvic ultrasound scan
During your fertility consultation, your consultant will perform a thorough pelvic ultrasound scan to look at your uterus and ovaries in more detail and provide a complete picture of your reproductive health. This scan (plus your blood test results) is essential to understanding your overall fertility, as well as potentially highlighting gynaecological issues we can help treat.
Face to face meeting with consultant to discuss results
Having a consultation with a doctor who can take you through your results and put them in context, is invaluable and arguably the most important part of having a fertility test.
